How to Find a Good Workers Compensation Lawyer?

How do you find a good worker's compensation lawyer? Well first things first, you are going to want to learn about your legal problem. Search the internet for FAQ's on workers compensation for national and state specific questions.
  1. Look for Lawyer Directories. (Ex. Lawyers.com) Then Search for "Workers Compensation", "Employment" or "Work Injury" lawyers in your city or state and create a list of possible lawyers you might be interested in hiring.
  2. Use a general search engine like Google or Yahoo and use keywords describing your legal problem. Example would be if your looking for a workers compensation attorney in Columbus, Ohio search for "Columbus Workers Compensation Lawyers". Example for state wide would be "Pennsylvania Employment Attorney" ---- Continue creating your list.
  3. You can always check the attorney organizations in your state. Check your city bar association, they will almost always have an attorney referral service available to you.
Now that you have a list of lawyer names, you are going to need to narrow that down and pick the lawyer that fits your needs.
  • Look for all the information you can find about each lawyer using one of the major search engines. Do they have an expertise in the area of workers' comp?
  • Find out if the attorney represents employees or employers. You can find out by either calling the lawyers office or reading the information they have available on there website.
  • Ask your friends and family if they know or heard anything about any of the attorneys you are interested. They say word of mouth is the best advertisement.
  • Contact the state bar association and make sure the lawyer has a good reputation.
That should narrow your list down to about 3 or so lawyers. Contact the lawyers and schedule a meeting with each of them. Use your good judgment and pick the lawyer that best fits your needs. Use your gut instinct and pick the lawyer you feel will get the job done.
