  • Make sure the nursing home is close to your house. The more you visit the more chance you can pick up on any type of neglect.
  • When deciding on a nursing home first make a appointment and get a tour than a few days later show up without an appointment. compare the two visits.
  • While at the nursing home talk to the visitors, ask if the home is taking good care of their loved ones are they happy with the service.
  • Take note of a few things while at the nursing home.
    • Is it clean?
    • Does it smell?
    • Are the residence clean, well dressed, and well kept?
    • Is it a home like environment?
  • When evaluating different places ask the ratio of staff to residents?
  • Talk to the CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) they will have the most contact with your loved ones make sure they are happy and not over worked.
  • What should you do if you suspect a loved one is being abused?

    • File a complaint to the director of nursing
    • File a complaint to the department of health
    • Call a Elder Abuse Lawyer
    • Move loved one to another place.
